Annamie Paul to remain as Green Party leader, says she wants to “move forward” | FULL

Global News published this video item, entitled “Annamie Paul to remain as Green Party leader, says she wants to “move forward” | FULL” – below is their description.

Green Party Leader Annamie Paul said on Monday that she wanted to move forward after a planned non-confidence vote by the federal council and a membership review were both scrapped. However, she said the process was a very “painful” moment in her life and had considered stepping down, but had not, saying that “diversity in politics matters.”

The vote that was to originally take place Tuesday on the non-confidence motion by federal council would have required support from three-quarters of the 13-member governing body in order to proceed to a party-wide vote in August at a general meeting, where a judgement on Paul’s leadership could of been rendered by the grassroots of the party.

It is not clear why the vote of non-confidence and review were both cancelled.

Asked why people should support her party following weeks of controversy over a potential ouster from leadership, Paul asked voters Monday to focus instead on supporting the candidates the party had to offer. She also then asked the next governing council, who takes on the role in August, to authorize cash to be spent hiring staff and to support her work as leader.

Voting is a method for a group, such as a meeting or an electorate, in order to make a collective decision or express an opinion usually following discussions, debates or election campaigns. Democracies elect holders of high office by voting. Residents of a place represented by an elected official are called “constituents”, and those constituents who cast a ballot for their chosen candidate are called “voters”. There are different systems for collecting votes, but while many of the systems used in decision-making can also be used as electoral systems, any which cater for proportional representation can only be used in elections.

In smaller organizations, voting can occur in different ways. Formally via ballot to elect others for example within a workplace, to elect members of political associations or to choose roles for others. Informally voting could occur as a spoken agreement or as a verbal gesture like a raised hand or electronically.
