FRANCE 24 English published this video item, entitled “Amazon founder Jeff Bezos steps down as CEO to focus on space exploration • FRANCE 24 English” – below is their description.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is handing over the reins of his $1.7 trillion shopping and entertainment empire to Andy Jassy. Bezos will now be devoting more time to space exploration, philanthropy and The Washington Post. In a year of record profits for the on-line retailer, Ava Seave calls it “a really good strategic move by Bezos.” With Amazon under such intense scrutiny – facing a restive workforce and calls for tighter regulation, “it makes sense for ‘the richest guy in the world’ to step away from managing the company.” Nevertheless, Ms. Seave is quite certain that he will still maintain a certain level of influence and “the company will, in fact, proceed as if Bezos was the head.” Ava Seave is Principal and Co-founder of Quantum Media; Ms. Seave is also Adjunct Professor at Columbia Business School and Columbia Journalism School.
