Murray River Police District Commander Paul Smith has celebrated the reopening of the New South Wales – Victoria border, saying it is “terrific” to be ending the border operation is over. Speaking today in Albury, he thanked border communities for their patience during the months of lockdown and “hopefully the border region can move into the holiday season and get back to some normality”. Mr Smith said of more than five million crossings which occurred during the border closure, about 80 per cent were border town residents.
