Alberta’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw and Dr. Verna Yiu, president and CEO of Alberta Health Services, will update the COVID-19 situation in the province at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Pressure on the health-care system has decreased slightly over the past few days.
As of Wednesday, there were 1,027 people in hospital due to COVID-19, with 236 patients in the ICU, according to AHS.
The lower hospitalization numbers were recently noted by Yiu. She said for the past six weeks, she has been worrying about an unprecedented level of pressure on Alberta’s health-care system.
On Tuesday, she said she is feeling “a little more optimistic” than she has in quite some time.
