Alberta Premier Jason Kenney will join chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw and Alberta Health Services president and CEO Dr. Verna Yiu for a COVID-19 update on Tuesday afternoon.

The update comes as overall active cases, hospitalizations and intensive care admissions due to COVID-19 continue to decline in Alberta.

Alberta recorded 2,181 new cases of the disease over the weekend. On Friday, 783 new cases were reported, 791 cases were identified Saturday and 607 cases were reported Sunday.

The province currently sits at 12,302 active cases of COVID-19, down slightly from 12,978 active cases on Friday.

There are now 981 people in hospital with COVID-19, down from 1,000 patients hospitalized on Friday afternoon. ICU admissions due to COVID-19 have dropped from 229 patients on Friday to 225 patients on Monday.
