Al Jazeera Media Network celebrated its silver jubilee in its headquarters in Doha on Monday under the theme “Al Jazeera 25 Years, a Unique Path”.
This year’s celebration was attended by the Father Emir His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani; Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer Al Thani, the chairman of the board of directors of Al Jazeera Media Network, intellectuals, prominent media executives, as well as the network’s management and employees.
The ceremony opened with a speech by the Father Emir, in which he said that this anniversary is dear to his heart, dear to all Qataris and Arabs, and all those who believe in the importance of unbiased journalism around the world.
What launched as an Arabic-language satellite news channel in 1996 here in Doha, is now a global network with several outlets in multiple languages.
Al Jazeera has been a vocal advocate of press freedom – and many of its journalists have been arrested.
