As the pandemic sweeps the world, who can offer critical support to economies? The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) believes it has a role to play. The lender is celebrating its 5th anniversary this week. The multilateral development bank’s founding mission is to improve social and economic conditions in the Asia-Pacific region. Five years on, with 103 members, it now has a total of 108 approved projects with 46 more in the pipeline covering 28 economies, including Vietnam, Georgia, Turkey, India and Pakistan. Half its projects are in energy and finance. On the occasion of the anniversary, Tian Wei was invited by AIIB President Jin Liqun to the bank’s headquarters to talk about new priorities.
