Aid agencies are warning that the Syrian city of Aleppo could become a ‘theatre for slaughter’. Several regional and international organisations have condemned a joint Russian and Syrian proposal to give civilians safe passage out of the besieged city, saying a true humanitarian operation wouldn’t force civilians to choose between flee towards their attackers, or remain in an area which is experiencing increasingly fierce fighting.
