US chip maker Nvidia revealed on August 31, 2022, that Washington had ordered it to stop exporting two top computing chips to China. The A100 and H100 chips, designed to speed up machine-learning tasks, could also be used in scouring satellite imagery for weapons or bases and filtering digital communications in intelligence gathering. The move was reportedly to avoid the products being used for military purposes in China. China slammed the move, accusing the US of imposing a “tech blockade”.
