A rally to honor slain jogger Ahmaud Arbery was scheduled to be held outside the Glynn County Courthouse in Brunswick, Georgia, on May 8, local media reported.
The day marks what would have been Arbery’s 26th birthday. He was killed on February 23, 2020, while running in the Satilla Shores neighborhood of Brunswick. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Arbery was confronted by Gregory and Travis McMichael, residents of the neighborhood. The pair were armed with two guns and “during the encounter, Travis McMichael shot and killed Arbery.”
Video emerged earlier this month depicting the incident, which has fueled racial tensions and sparked allegations of injustice. The McMichaels were arrested on the evening of May 7 and charged with felony murder and aggravated assault.
In this video, crowds can be seen gathering outside the Glynn County Courthouse to take part in a rally for Arbery.
