DW News published this video item, entitled “Afghanistan’s health system at breaking point | COVID-19 Special” – below is their description.
Afghanistan is battling a third wave of COVID-19 infections. The country’s healthcare system is overwhelmed.
With hospitals full, a persistent shortage of oxygen, and a general failure to adopt basic precautions like mask wearing and social distancing, Afghanistan has entered its severest period yet of the pandemic.
Rights groups have urged the government to procure more oxygen and vaccines. So far only about 2 percent of the population has received jabs. And years of war have already weakened the health care system, that’s now one of the world’s most unprepared to deal with the pandemic.
