Boris Johnson has urged the Taliban to let Britons leave Afghanistan after August 31, as he appeared to accept Joe Biden’s deadline for the withdrawal of Western troops from the country, Tony Diver writes.

Speaking after a meeting of the G7, Mr Johnson said the group of nations had “considerable leverage” over the Taliban.

“The number one condition we’re setting as G7 is that they’ve got to guarantee right the way through, through August 31 and beyond safe passage for those who want to come out,” he said.
