The Telegraph published this video item, entitled “Afghanistan dispatch: One year under Taliban rule” – below is their description.
It was a military victory that shocked the world. Over the course of two tumultuous weeks last summer, the Taliban swept through Afghanistan. As America, Britain and others pulled their troops out, the internationally backed government collapsed, and twenty years of intervention ended in humiliating defeat.
A year on and the Taliban remain in power and appear firmly in control. The militants have re-established their old Islamic emirate, which ruled the country before 2001. They say they have brought peace, toppled a corrupt government and ended a war which was killing hundreds each week.
Yet the country has also gone into economic meltdown and any improved security is enforced by fear. Women are being edged out from public life and repressions seem to grow more severe by the day.
