After the Taliban’s return in August 2021, the U.S. froze the Afghan Central Bank’s $7 billion in foreign exchange reserves deposited at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Afghan shop owners have complained that business is becoming harder and harder and wish the U.S. would release the funds.
