Global News published this video item, entitled “Aerial video shows close-up of Italian glacier collapse that killed at least 10” – below is their description.
Aerial footage showing close-up detail of a glacier collapse feared to have killed 12 people on the Italian Alps was released by the Italian Fire Brigade on Thursday, as the search for the final two missing people continued.
At least ten people are now confirmed to have been killed in the avalanche on Sunday on the Marmolada, which is the highest peak in the Dolomites, a mountain range in the eastern Italian Alps straddling the regions of Trento and Veneto.
Much of Italy has been baking in an early-summer heatwave, and scientists have said climate change is making previously stable glaciers more unpredictable.
Parts of the mountain will remain shut off to tourists, in order to allow rescue teams to operate and prevent climbers from accessing potentially dangerous areas.
The local Fassa Valley will hold a day of mourning on Saturday to honour the victims, who include two tourists from the Czech Republic.
