Peaceful protests over the death of George Floyd have continued in New York City with thousands of demonstrators taking to the streets in Manhattan on Wednesday.
The city had lifted its curfew imposed after several protests last week were marred by spasms of arson, assaults and smash-and-grab raids on businesses.
More than 10,000 people have been arrested around the country, according to reports tracked by The Associated Press.
But protests in recent days have been overwhelmingly peaceful – and over the weekend, several police departments appeared to retreat from aggressive tactics.
The day was also marked by the end of a 3-month long lockdown, with some nonessential stores reopening – though luxury outlets remained cautiously closed over fears of criminal damage.
