Adopt a Ukrainian grandparent: online portal launches to help Kharkiv’s most vulnerable

Global News published this video item, entitled “Adopt a Ukrainian grandparent: online portal launches to help Kharkiv’s most vulnerable” – below is their description.

Thousands of elderly and vulnerable locals have been left to fend for themselves in Kharkiv, the site of intense fighting early in the war and an ongoing target of Russian bombardment.

Though their disabilities and age-related frailties pre-date the invasion, an exodus of friends, relatives and other community support have left them more vulnerable.

One of the organizations that has stepped in to help is Rescue Now, which in addition to organizing evacuations from Luhansk, Donetsk and Kharkiv regions, has created an online database of elderly and vulnerable locals.

The program is referred to as the “adopt a grandparent” campaign and allows people from anywhere in the world to donate money towards food and medicine for a specific person. Crystal Goomansingh explains.
