Abu Ghraib is unlikely ever to be forgotten. The Iraqi prison was central to a scandal in 2003, after photos leaked showing its inmates subjected to brutal treatment by their American jailers, and forcing an apology from the US.

A decade later, the prison was under Iraqi control when five hundred detainees escaped. More than a few would end up fighting for the Islamic state group.

Today, the US. occupation is a distant memory, the prison shut down. Could normal life be reasserting itself around Abu Ghraib? France 24 went to find out.
