Heart disease is a leading cause of sickness and death in this country. Hundreds of thousands of Australians are walking around with devices such as pacemakers, stents and artificial valves to keep their hearts beating.
But a register set up to alert heart surgeons of potential problems with these products has been a dismal failure. And one surgeon fears this is allowing faulty devices to stay on the market.
