There’s renewed hopes that scores of cold cases in NSW can now be solved because of breakthrough developments in DNA technology.

It’s been revealed that a new taskforce called ‘Operation Parallel’ is applying a new form of DNA called Y-STR to investigate old crimes. It uses familial DNA signatures to zero in on new suspects. The technique has solved some of the most high profile crimes in the United States.

Its understood the technique has provided new leads for dozens of murders here in New South Wales.
