‘A national treasure’: Mourners pay tribute to Dame Vera Lynn

Friends and visitors have paid tribute to Dame Vera Lynn, the Forces Sweetheart, at her funeral in Ditchling.

Crowds gathered in the Sussex village, where she lived for 60 years, to say goodbye to their “special local lady”.

As the funeral cortege made its way out of the village, they broke into an impromptu rendition of ‘We’ll Meet Again’, one of Dame Vera’s most famous songs.
