‘A mistake’: Royal experts react to Prince William, Meghan Markle and Harry reunion | Queen death. Prince William’s attempt to build bridges with his brother Harry could backfire, believes the Daily Mail’s Diary Editor Richard Eden. Following a text message from Prince William, he and Kate Middleton and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle surprised well-wishers at Windsor on Saturday by appearing together. The new Prince of Wales’ move may have been well-intentioned, says Eden, but it was also very risky. ‘I think William’s gesture was magnanimous, it was very kind, but I’m afraid I fear it was a mistake, because when they’ve made kind gestures before towards Harry and Meghan they’ve been thrown back in their face,’ he tells our royal talk show Palace Confidential. ‘I mean look at how the Duchess of Cambridge as she then was, went round [to see Meghan] after there had been a row over the flower girls at the wedding – she took some flowers and that was held against her publically in the Oprah interview… William’s gesture has elevated them, it’s made them central again now, next to William and Catherine. It’s wonderful for them, I’m sure they’ll be able to exploit it a lot in the future, but I do fear it’s a mistake.’ Charlotte Griffiths, the Mail on Sunday’s Editor at Large, believes that engineering meeting of the so-called Fab Four ahead of the Queen’s funeral could prove to be a smart move.
