Refugees who fled the civil war in Syria are reflecting back on the 10 years of conflict that has taken place since hundreds of Syrians took to the streets to demonstrate against President Bashar al-Assad, which quickly turned into deadly clashes with police.
The conflict has dragged on longer than the First and Second World Wars and has meant suffering for those in the country on an industrial scale.
A British-based group, the Syrian Observatory of Human Rights, estimates that as of this month more than 2.1 million have been injured and more than 594,000 have been killed.
Millions have left the country since the conflict began, with more than 80,000 who have settled here in Canada.
Mike Armstrong takes a look back at the decade-long conflict and what impact the stress of what’s happening back home has on those who have left.
