October 25 marked the 50th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China taking back its lawful United Nations (UN) seat. Fifty years ago, an overwhelming majority passed a resolution at the 26th UN General Assembly for restoring China’s seat. In the past five decades, China has been committed to the UN mission of peace and development. To mark the occasion, Chinese President Xi Jinping and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres addressed a conference in Beijing. President Xi hailed the UN seat restoration for China as a victory of all people, stressing China has done its part and pledged to keep cooperating with the UN for a shared future of mankind.
