A first look inside London’s new NHS Nightingale hospital for coronavirus patients

First look: London’s new NHS Nightingale hospital

The UK’s Telegraph published this video “first look” inside London’s new NHS Nightingale hospital, which is a temporary hospital setup inside the ExCeL conference centre, in order to cope with a surge in Covid-19 patients expected in Britain’s capital.

Britain’s first NHS Nightingale Hospital, the first of several created to help alleviate pressure on the health service during the coronavirus pandemic, have emerged.

Construction workers, with help from British Army soldiers from the Royal Gurkha Rifles, have transformed London’s Excel centre into a 4,000 bed emergency facility.

The 600-metre-long Excel has 87, 328 sq metres of space and is usually used for exhibitions and conferences, including a G20 Summit and events for the London 2012 Olympics.

Frontline healthcare workers are warning of “the impending tsunami” of Coronavirus patients who will need critical care in the coming weeks, and of the “huge urgency” in reducing hospital capacity issues before the UK reaches the peak of the pandemic.

More than 26,000 people have died of COVID-19 worldwide, while the number of people who have died with the virus in the UK has reached 1,228, with almost 20,000 confirmed cases.
