  • Sky News Australia published this video item, entitled “A Biden administration will ‘return the US to orthodoxy’, or rather, ‘underachievement'” – below is their description.

Sky News host Chris Kenny says the transition of a Biden Administration at the helm of the United States will be a return to orthodoxy, or in other words, likely a return to underachievement. “Joe Biden and his team have begun their transition to power, and Donald Trump has given his staff the green light to facilitate briefings and resources, although he still reckons he won the election. How very Trumpian,” he said. “Biden has announced key members of his team. It is a return to orthodoxy. In other words, a return to underachievement. “I mean John Kerry, the former senator and secretary of state – the millionaire who loves to fly around on private jets – he’s your climate envoy and he’s gonna get everyone else to reduce their carbon footprint. Mr Kenny said one of the bizarre things about the post-election period was that the public profiles of the two candidates had completely swapped. “Trump hasn’t spoken publicly nearly so much, although today he did perform the annual turkey pardoning on the eve of Thanksgiving. And no he didn’t pardon the electoral organisers, he pardoned a turkey called Corn,” he said. “On the other hand, Joe Biden, now that he can’t scare the voters away, he’s been more visible than he was before the election. “Before the election, Biden accused Trump of telling porkies about a vaccine being around the corner. Either way, a successful vaccine is good news for all.”

  • In This Story: Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is best known as a holiday celebrated in the United States on the fourth Thursday of November every year, usually through feasting, parades and travel to see family and friends, though celebrations have been scaled back during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic.

The roots of the modern celebration lie in settlers celebrating their arrival in the Americas in the early 1600’s. It has been a public holiday since 1941 due to federal legislation, an annual tradition in the United States by presidential proclamation since 1863 and by state legislation since the Founding Fathers of the United States.

Traditionally, Thanksgiving has been a celebration of the blessings of the year, including the harvest. What Americans call the “Holiday Season” generally begins with Thanksgiving. The first day after Thanksgiving Day—Black Friday—marks the start of the Christmas shopping season.
