Rick Hanlon has won Cairns Citizen of the Year in recognition of his work in AFL Cape York House Foundation.

The foundation was set up in 2013 and aims to encourage young indigenous people to go to school and get involved in their community through sport.

The foundation now has a boys and girls boarding house in Cairns so older children involved in the program can attend high school in Cairns.

“Its about doing what we doing, better and staying focused on what our core responsibilities are and making it sure we do it the best we can.”
