5G signal to cover summit of Qomolangma

Chinese state-funded broadcaster, CGTN, told how the summit of Mount Qomolangma would be covered by 5G signal.

By late this week, a 5G signal is expected to cover the summit of Mount Qomolangma, according to China Mobile, one of the country’s major telecom service providers. As of Sunday, three 5G base stations had been built at the 5,300-meter base camp and the 5,800-meter transition camp. Another two will be established by Friday at the 6,500-meter advanced base camp, jointly working with others and sending signals to the mount’s peak.

The 5G signal is based on Non-standalone (NSA) and standalone (SA) networks that also involve the efforts of Chinese telecom giant Huawei. Over 150 workers have been working for the task and they are also guaranteeing the upgrade and maintenance of the trunk transmission system close to Qomolangma. To protect the environment, no excavation is allowed in the mount’s core area and an armored cable layout that does minimal harm has been adopted, according to China Mobile. And the company said that the mission will offer convenience to the scientific investigation and mountaineering in Mount Qomolangma.
