South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “21 Xinjiang coal miners trapped underground after flooding cuts power, communications” – below is their description.
Rescue efforts are under way to help 21 miners who were trapped by flooding in a coal mine in China’s western Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. Reports in Chinese state media on April 11, 2021, said the accident happened at the Fengyuan coal mine in Hutubi county about 6.10pm on April 10. Eight miners have been rescued so far from a group of 29 who were trapped when flooding cut power and communication links to the shafts. But nearly 1,500 rescuers are reportedly still trying to reach others trapped in three different locations including some 1,200 metres (3,900ft) underground.
