Twenty-one runners have been confirmed dead after extreme weather hit an ultra-#marathon race in northwest #China’s Gansu Province. According to the local authorities, hailstones, freezing rain and gale force winds caused multiple cases of #hypothermia. Temperatures dropped further after nightfall, complicating the rescue operation. Rescue teams are still searching for one of the 172 runners in the 100-kilometer race, who remains unaccounted for.
