In Zhengzhou, the capital of central China’s Henan Province, 12 people died in severe flooding that trapped passengers in subways. On Tuesday evening, torrential rains flooded regions surrounding a parking lot along Line 5 of the city’s subway system. The rainwater broke the barriers and rushed into subway tunnels. Subway authorities immediately suspended all services. Rescue teams responded quickly, evacuating and relocating over 500 passengers. Twelve people were found dead and five injured passengers were sent to hospitals. Clean-up operations are now underway.
