Ontario’s police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said Thursday it is investigating the circumstances that led to a one-year-old boy’s death after a collision with an Ontario Provincial Police vehicle in Kawartha Lakes Thursday morning. SIU spokesperson Monica Hudon said OPP officers were responding to reports of an “abduction” of a one-year-old boy by his 33-year-old father. The OPP were attempting to stop the driver who had allegedly abducted his one-year-old son when the collision happened. The father was injured by police gunfire and an OPP officer was seriously injured following the incident. A total of six investigators and a collision reconstructionist are probing the incident and three subject officers have been designated.
