Milton Keynes to Get New Shopping Centre in £56 Million Deal

Milton Keynes will get a new shopping centre as part of a £56 million deal between The Crown Estate and Inter MK Limited, the owners of the MK Dons Stadium. The MK1 Shopping Park will be situated next to the MK Dons football stadium and is scheduled for completion in late 2012.

235,000 square feet of new retail space and over 600 car parking spaces will play host to high street stores such as M&S, Primark, Arcadia and River Island. The development was agreed in order to fund an upper seating balcony at the MK Dons stadium, increasing the capacity from 22,000 to 32,000.

Pete Winkelman, Chairman of the InterMK Group said:

“With the commitment of The Crown Estate we are really pleased to bring forward this exciting high quality fashion retail development. Not only does this investment signal that Milton Keynes is very much open for business, but this development also enables us to complete the iconic StadiumMK – an important cultural asset for the whole South East Midland region.”

Work on the improvements to the Dons stadium will start  immediately.
