McLaren Unveils Plans for 35 New Dealerships Worldwide

McLaren Automotive will open its first ever showroom at One Hyde Park, London, UK later this month.

The showroom, due to open on the 21st June 2011, will be the first of 35 that are planned across the world. The release of the MP4-12C supercar McLaren has meant that a worldwide network of dealers needs to be established to deal with the expected demand as over 2,700 potential customers have already expressed a ‘serious intention to buy’. Producing a more mainstream model, with the sales figures that this will produce, will reap huge financial benefits for the company but has required massive investment and expansion of the customer-facing elements of the business.

As a result McLaren have invested nearly £800 million ($1,275 million, €940 million) since 2005 and will have 35 retail outlets in 19 countries by the end of 2011. Each will stock a wide range of service and repair spares ensuring that customers will benefit from a faster turnaround than has been possible previously.

Christian Marti, McLaren Automotive’s European Regional Director, said:

“We worked incredibly hard to ensure McLaren is represented by the world’s best retailers, and Jardine Motors Group worked incredibly hard to convince us that they were right for us in London. One Hyde Park completes the picture for both of our businesses as we move towards the launch of the 12C and our future range of sports cars.”

Following the London launch, two more McLaren retailers for the UK will open in Manchester on 30th June 2011, and Birmingham on 5th July 2011. The remaining 32 sites in the global network will be operational by the end of this year, beginning in July and through the summer with the European network in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland.

The MP4-12C is only the first in a range of high-performance, carbon-fibre based sports cars that are planned, and costs £168,500 ($270,000, €200,000), with a ready-to-race version, the MP4-12C GT3, available for £310,000 ($500,000, €365,000).

All future McLaren sports cars will be built in the new £40m McLaren Production Centre in Woking, England. Up to 1,000 MP4-12C cars will be built there annually before production increases to 4,000 cars a year by the middle of the decade when the new model line-up is complete.
