Napa Valley: Winegrowers Launch Official Bike Tour

If you like keeping fit and drinking wine, what could be better than touring one of California’s best known winegrowing region on your bike, with lunch included? The Stags Leap District Winegrowers Association has developed a tour of 12 local wineries to bring in an extra 2,000 tourists, without any extra cars spoiling the tranquility of the countryside.

Stags Leap District is an official appellation of the Napa Valley and mostly plants Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The area has warmer days and cooler nights than the surrounding areas owing to a unique micro-climate. Wines from the area have consistently won awards and the Clos du Val, Stags Leap Cabernet (2005) reached the 2010 Decanter Awards’ Cabernet Top Ten.

A six hour guided tour of Stags Leap District costs $149 and includes equipment rental, catered lunch, personal guide, and local wine delivery. Five dollars of each tour is donated to the Napa Vine Trail, a non-profit initiative working towards a full Napa Valley bicycle trail.
