Woman Who Faked Abduction Could Face 25 Year Sentence (L&C Daily)

Law&Crime Network published this video item, entitled “Woman Who Faked Abduction Could Face 25 Year Sentence (L&C Daily)” – below is their description.

Sherri Papini, the California woman who faked her own abduction in 2016 signed a guilty plea deal on Tuesday, agreeing to pay restitution and a fine. Papini could face up to 25 years of incarceration but federal prosecutors stated they will recommend that the defendant be sentenced to the low end of the applicable guideline range as determined by the Court. According to the FBI, she faked her own kidnapping for several weeks in November of 2016 while a nationwide manhunt ensued. Papini was charged with making false statements to a federal law enforcement officer and engaging in mail fraud.

In other news, the Johnny Depp and Amber heard defamation trial continues. Depp’s sister took the stand on Tuesday and continued on Wednesday, followed by testimony by a friend of Depp’s. Plus, the three officers involved in the death of George Floyd have rejected a plea deal as they await a decision from the judge on whether or not cameras will be allowed in the courtroom for their upcoming state trial in June. The three have already been convicted federally of violating Floyd’s civil rights during the fatal arrest. Finally, Anthony Todt testified in his own defense in court on Wednesday. Todt is accused of murdering his family in 2019 in his Celebration, Florida home.
