The growing field of Islamic law was the focus of the recent Roundtable on Islamic Legal History and Historiography, a discussion organized by Harvard Law School Professor Intisar Rabb, director of the school’s Program in Islamic Law. The roundtable, which grew out of the Islamic Law Blog co-edited by Rabb and University of Toronto history professor Mariam Sheibani, convened more than a dozen leading Islamic law scholars, and looked at some of the key issues and debates surrounding the evolution of this relatively new area of scholarship.
