Roberta “Robbie” Kaplan was the speaker for the Class Day ceremonies at Harvard Law School on Wednesday, May 29, 2019. Kaplan was chosen by representatives of this year’s graduating class. A formidable litigator who successfully argued before the Supreme Court in United States v. Windsor, the case that invalidated the Defense of Marriage Act, which defined marriage as a union between a man and a woman. The win was considered a landmark victory for LGTB rights in the United States. Kaplan is the founding partner at Kaplan Hecker & Fink and author of the book “Then Comes Marriage: United States v. Windsor and the Defeat of DOMA.”
