In This Story: Alex Murdaugh

Alex Murdaugh is a lawyer from Hampton County, South Carolina, who stands accused of many crimes, relating to financial irregularities, as well as involvement in the death of his wife and son.

On September 4 2021, Murdaugh was shot in the head on Salkehatchie Rd, on his way to Charleston SC.

Shortly afterwards, Murdaugh entered rehab, with a statement which said:

“The murders of my wife and son have caused an incredibly difficult time in my life.”

“I have made a lot of decisions that I truly regret. I’m resigning from my law firm and entering rehab after a long battle that has been exacerbated by these murders.”

It subsequently became apparent that, one day prior to his shooting, he had been ejected from his law firm, after money was apparently missing.

He was arrested and charged with multiple offences, including suspicion of having organised his own shooting, in an apparent insurance fraud scheme, in order that his son could inherit a large quantity of money.

The many charges against Murdaugh are proceeding through the courts – with over 50 currently lodged.
