On October 27, members of the Harvard Law community joined together for a tribute to the life and work of Ralph Gants ’80, the late Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court who passed away in September. In a discussion moderated by 300th Anniversary University Professor Martha Minow, colleagues shared their reflections on Justice Gants, recalling how he exercised his judicial leadership to advocate for access to justice throughout his career. Harvard Law School Dean John F. Manning ’85 opened the event. Guests included Professor David Wilkins ’80; former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick ’82; former Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Margaret Marshall; Kimberly Budd, associate justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court; Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins; and Susan Finegan, co-chair of the Massachusetts Access to Justice Commission. Remarks on behalf of the Gants family were given by Deborah Ramirez ’81, professor at the Northeastern University School of Law.
