Online retail giant, Amazon Inc, on Tuesday launched their new look ‘Appstore for Android’ for US customers visiting Amazon.com, and were met with an immediate lawsuit from Apple Inc, makers of the hugely popular iPod, iPhone and iPad, in the State of California over the use of the words ‘App Store’.
Apple inc owns the trademark ‘App Store’ and has filed a lawsuit in Northern California Federal Court. The case in U.S. District Court, Northern District of California is Apple Inc v. Amazon.com Inc, 11-1327.
According to Reuters, Apple’s spokeswoman, Kristin Huguet, said on Monday “We’ve asked Amazon not to copy the APP STORE name because it will confuse and mislead customers,”
It remains to be seen what, if any, action Amazon will take in response to the lawsuit.
