James Bond is resurrected in the next 007 blockbuster set for release on 26th October 2012 in the UK & Ireland.
SKYFALL sees the MI6 agent receive an obituary from M before returning from the dead to Vauxhall, London, to take on a new mission.
Bond fever is gripping the UK as a fitting end to a patriotic year for the country, with the celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee and the London 2012 Olympics shortly coming to a close. The Queen even took part in some PR for the film, shooting a scene with Daniel Craig for part of the Olympics Opening Ceremony.
Excited Bond fans are also being treated to an exhibition of Bond motors “Bond in Motion” at the National Motor Museum, in Hampshire, England. Two Honda CRF250R motorcycles have arrived straight from the set of SKYFALL and will take pride of place alongside Goldfinger’s 1937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III, the iconic Lotus Esprit from The Spy Who Loved Me, the buzzing autogyro from You Only Live Twice and the Bede Acrostar jet from Octopussy. Former Bond girl, Britt Ekland, even made it to the opening day of the exhibition.
The filming of SKYFALL has been just as painstaking as the previous 22 Bond films. Part of the new movie was shot in Shanghai for the unusual blue lighting on the arterial Yanan highway. The neon-lit skyscrapers and omnipresent advertising around the city present an exotic and ultra-luxe backdrop for the international spy. Bond’s suit were hand-made and tailored, sourced from Tom Ford and adjusted for action scenes by French costume designer Jany Temime. She explained the difficulty in taking on the Bond brief:
“It’s quite difficult because James Bond is such an iconic figure that you have to respect a certain style, an English gentleman, perfectly dressed up and he’s sometimes doing physical stunts. I wanted to give the whole look a little edge, you know, because all his suits are tailored and handmade, but he should wear them with a little 2012 touch and that’s what I have been trying to do.”
SKYFALL is out in cinemas on 26th October in the UK & Ireland.
