International Olympic Committee Impressed with Sochi 2014 Progress

Ski-ing will be just one of the sports included at the Sochi games

The International Olympic Committee are impressed with the progress being made in preparation for the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia in 2014. Sixty test events are planned ahead of the games with several outreach programs aiming to involve local people in the sporting festival.

Dmitry Chernyshenko, President of the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee, said:

“I am delighted that the IOC Coordination Commission has confirmed the strong progress made by Sochi 2014. There is still plenty to do but it is encouraging that they feel we are in good shape and that they have highlighted the work we are doing to engage people right across the country.”

55,000 workers are preparing the venues for the 2014 Winter Olympics and 140,000 have had the theme of the Olympiad included in their lessons. Volunteers have been recruited from 26 universities to help communicate the Sochi 2014 message throughout Russia.
