Lucia Safarova (13) fought back from trailing 2-5 in the opening set to win 7-5 7-5 over Ana Ivanovic to reach this Sunday’s 2015 French Open Ladies Final.
The thirteenth seeded Czech will face Serena Williams in Saturday’s Final after the American overcame Timea Bacsinszky in yesterday’s Semi Final, despite suffering from flu.
Safarova will be the first Czech woman in a French Open final for 34 years, since Hana Mandlikova won the tournament in 1981. This year will represent a good opportunity with Williams out of sorts, however the American showed no shortage of tenacity and resolve to come back in her semi final.
However, in this match, Safarova showed herself to be more than capable of coming back from a difficult position, after finding herself 2-5 down in the opening set, after Ana Ivanovic raced ahead.
In the second set, Safarova won five games on the bounce, to serve for the match at 5-4, when she wobbled slightly with the finish line in sight: serving three double faults before losing her serve. However, she reproduced the aggressive tennis which had put her into a good position in the match to break straight back before settling her nerves to serve out the match and win 7-5 7-5.
