Football: UEFA Champions League Results, Tuesday 23 November 2010

Eight UEFA Champions League Group matches produced 23 goals in an entertaining evening of football on Tuesday 23rd November 2010.

In action were Real Madrid, who travelled to Ajax and were ruthless in guaranteeing their spot at the top of Group G with a solid 4-0 away win coming courtesy of Benzema, Arbeloa and a Ronaldo brace.

Arsenal travelled to Braga and were shock 2-0 losers in a result which throws Group H open: Shakhtar Donetsk won 3-0 at Partizan Belgrade to take the lead on 12 points, with Arsenal and Braga now joint second on 9. Arsenal will need to beat Partizan Belgrade next week to be sure of qualification from this tight group.

Chelsea maintained their 100% record in Group F despite going a goal down at home to MSK Zilina at Stamford Bridge. Second half goals from Sturridge and Malouda overturned Zilina’s 18th minute strike by Babatounde.

Also in Group F, Marseille staked their claim on the second qualification place by travelling to Spartak Moscow and picking up a good 3-0 victory which takes them to 9 points – ahead of the Russians who remain on 6 – with one match remaining. Marseille have Chelsea up next, however, so Spartak may still have a small, albeit seemingly purely theoretical chance, if they can pile on the goals against Zilina.

But the game of the day was surely in Group E, where Roma ended Bayern Munich’s 100% record in spectacular style by coming from behind to record a 3-2 victory. Bayern went 2-0 up in the first half with two goals in six minutes from Gomez (33, 39) before the hosts staged a second half comeback. Borriello (49) got them back into it in the 49th minute, before De Rossi (81) evened things up with ten minutes remaining. Only one man could seal this victory when a penalty was awarded on 84 minutes: Totti (84) stepped up confidently to slot home the winner in front of jubilant home support and clinch a European tie that will live long in the memory.

Basle kept themselves in the hunt for second place in the group behind Bayern (12 points) and Roma (9 points) as they picked up their second win with a 1-0 home victory over CFR 1907 Cluj-Napoca.

  2. sometimes i ask myself why i still support arsenal. guys we need to pull it together. we are so much better than this!!!

  3. yeah. arsenal deserve it because they lack consistency and experience in the cup. it wont be a surprise to see them off at this stage.

  4. that was good work for Chelsea especially after loosing in their home league

  5. I like real madrid because they always carry b4 name. Go real, go c. ronaldo, go mourinho.

  6. I love Arsenal so much but i don’t understand y they hates so much to shoot from far away when there more possibilities to score so my request is shoot from far away at least try for one time. Thank you i hope they shoot

  7. Robin scott, I am so happy with your marvelous work, keep it up.

  8. Thank u Rubin 4this result that we have seen.God blesse u.

  9. What went wrong to the gunners performance dis days lost two matches consecutively?

  10. Now i had confused by arsenal this is the team i like but i don’t know what use to went wrong with them, they play an interested & quality soccer but they fail to score. The other things they hate to shoot from far as they prefer to score easy goals whereby sometimes it will be difficult to penetrate through opponents defenders. Anyhow it’s already done & history is recorded, i just hoping for de last match we will win.
