The weekend of 28th-29th January 2012 saw the English FA Cup 2011/12 Fourth Round take place across England and Wales, as teams played for a place in the Fifth Round Draw.
On Saturday, the game of the day ahead of the weekend looked on paper to be the huge North West all-Premier tie between Liverpool and Manchester United at Anfield, where what was a cagey affair was eventually settled by Dirk Kuyt’s late winner, giving Liverpool the 2-1 and bragging rights over their old enemies from Manchester.
A giant fell at Brighton and Hove Albion, where Gus Poyet’s men overcame Premier League Newcastle United with a 1-0 victory.
But the highest drama waited until Sunday, where Arsenal came back from a 2-0 half time deficit against Aston Villa to record a 3-2 victory aided by a brace of Robin van Persie penalties. Sunderland and Middlesbrough played out a North East derby at the Stadium of Light, and Tony Mobray’s men were delighted to travel away to Premier League Sunderland and collect a replay courtesy of a 1-1 draw.
