Football: England Urged to Rest Andy Carroll

Newcastle United have sent an email to the English FA urging them to rest their 21 year old centre forward, Andy Carroll, in tonight’s friendly with France.

Carroll has made am impressive start to the 2010/11 Barclays Premier League campaign for Newcastle, who were promoted from the Championship last season following relegation in 2008/09.

The player, who is from nearby Gateshead, has scored seven goals in all competitions for his club, which prompted England manager, Fabio Capello to make the call to the promising young star.

On Tuesday, Capello announced that Carroll would make his debut in tonight’s friendly with France at Wembley, which was met with concern at NUFC, as the player picked up a groin injury during Saturday’s 0-0 draw at home to Fulham.

Club officials are believed to have emailed the England administration asking that Carroll be rested for this friendly match.

England take on France at Wembley this evening, 17th November 2010. Kick-off is 20:00 GMT.
