Football: Barclays Premier League Results, Saturday 20th November 2010

Seven Barclays Premier League matches took place on Saturday, 20th November 2010, with a number of key fixtures at both ends of the table.

Man Utd went joint top of the league courtesy of their 2-0 win at home to Wigan Athletic, and league leaders Chelsea’s continued sticky form as they went down 1-0 away at struggling Birmingham.

Arsenal missed a chance to go top of the table as they let a 2-0 home lead against rivals Tottenham Hotspur slip to a 3-2 defeat thanks to a spirited Spurs second half comeback. Van der Vaart and Gareth Bale were once again instrumental for Tottenham as both players scored en route to their side’s spectacular turnaround.

At the other end of the table, Blackpool got the better of Wolves at home with a 2-1 victory which sees the Wolverhampton side still rooted to the bottom of the league on 9 points, and looking more and more like they will be playing Championship football next term if they don’t find an extra goal or two from somewhere.

Fellow strugglers, West Ham look to be in troubled too after they lost 3-0 away at Liverpool, who put last week’s blip behind them via goals from Glen Johnson, a Dirk Kuyt penalty and Maxi Rodriguez.

Bolton cruised smoothly into the fourth Champions League spot, if only for a day, with an excellent 5-1 home drubbing of this season’s Jekyll and Hyde side, Newcastle United.

Stoke continued their rise up the table with a solid 3-0 win away at early pacesetters West Brom. The baggies have now lost five matches in succession and have fallen to 14th, just 2 points away from the drop zone: early thoughts of a comfortable season appear over.
