All but two of the twenty teams in the Barclays Premier League were in action on Saturday and Sunday 5-6th March 2011, as the top and bottom of the table got closer than ever.
West Ham took a step towards safety, by defeating Stoke City 3-0 at Upton Park, while Manchester United offered those chasing them for the title a chink of light as they went down to their second league defeat of the season, losing 3-1 to Liverpool at Anfield.
Arsenal only caught United by one point courtesy of their draw at home to Sunderland on Saturday, while Tottenham missed an opportunity to put some pressure on Chelsea, who play on Monday evening at Blackpool, as they could only draw 3-3 with Wolves on Sunday, despite leading three times.
West Brom picked up a vital win against their rivals Birmingham on Saturday lunch time, winning 3-1 at St Andrews, while there were also good wins for Everton, Bolton and Fulham. Manchester City’s slender 1-0 win saw them get the best result of the top four: their title chances, such as they are, took the biggest step forward this weekend.
