Barclays Premier League football returned for six matches on Saturday and three fixtures on Sunday over the weekend of 30-31st October 2010.
Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United remain in the top three after each side recorded victories – the two London clubs left it late to produce a winner in their matches, while United won 2-0 at home to 5th placed Tottenham Hotspur in Saturday’s evening fixture.
Manchester City continued their mini slump in form to lose away at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the shock of the weekend. Wolves came from a goal behind to record an impressive 2-1 home win that lifts them to a second-bottom nine points with only their second win of the season – their first since the opening match. City remain fourth owing to Spurs’ failure to overcome their Manchester rivals.
Sunday’s main focus was the Tyne-Wear derby match at St James Park. Newcastle United did not disappoint their home faithful as they recorded a hugely important 5-1 victory against rivals Sunderland, who were reduced to ten men in their meekest performance to date this term.
